Illustration for The Victoria

A few weeks ago, the Interior Design and Branding firm Davindi approached me looking to commission a black and white illustration of the composers Gilbert & Sullivan, for a refurbishment being carried out at The Victoria pub in Birmingham.
The brief was to create an antique looking caricature, created with stencil-like block black and white shapes to give it a modern twist. After sketching the basic outline, to be used as a guide for the light fitting, I then got to work developing the level of detail in Adobe Illustrator, working closely with the Interior Designer to create something that matched the pub’s new branding.

The result was the above illustration, which was then cut out of vinyl and placed under two ‘bowler hat’ light fittings next to the bar. The bowler hats were a nice creative touch by the interiors firm and matched the rest of the décor perfectly.

The feedback received from both Davindi and The Victoria, was better than I could have expected for a project which had such a tight deadline. Speaking about the project, Davindi tweeted “Great working with @stina_jones. Gave her the shortest deadline. Delivered. And excelled. Enjoy a drink @TheVictoria”
Davindi did an amazing job with the refurbishment and I’m so pleased I was able to help out with my illustration! You can check out more photos of the new décor over on the pub’s Facebook page — or pop into The Victoria, on John Bridge Street in Birmingham, and see it for yourself!

Love your work, Stina. Often wondered who’d created some of the cool things dotted around The Victoria!
