The idea was born out of a love for writing about artists, promoting exhibitions and sharing all kinds of interesting arty stuff we come across. We’ve both used our own blogs for this kind of thing before so when Lorrie approached me with the idea to start a dedicated zine, I felt it’d be a natural progression – it would allow us to bring more contributors on board and write more frequently about other’s projects, while keeping our own journal spaces as ledgers for personal projects and inspiration.
The project was set up fairly quietly with no real launch or promotional campaign. Lorrie put together the website while I created the logo. My first written contribution was a feature about some paintings made from tea by the artist Scary Goat (which really are fab and well worth a look if you get the chance!)
Within just a few weeks of going live, we were stoked to see that the Facebook page had over 150 followers and growing fast! We feature new work on the page every day so head on over and subscribe if you’d like to add a bit of arty goodness to your feed.
We’re actively seeking regular contributors for the blog, press releases from curators and portfolio links from artists who would like us to feature their work. If you’d like to get involved, you can contact me at the usual address or email us via the website – www.artjunky.net/contact
